Simple prayers and other reflections

These prayers and reflections are drawn from a variety of traditions and deliberately not attributed to one belief as many have a universal relevance.

God grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

May the One who blessed our ancestors,
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah,
Bless and heal the one who is ill:
XXX son/daughter of XXX (traditionally the name of the mother).

May the Holy Blessed One overflow with compassion upon him/her,
To restore him/her,
To heal him/her,
To strengthen him/her,
To enliven him/her.

The One will send him/her, speedily, a complete healing:
Healing of the soul and healing of the body
Along with all the ill,
Among the people of Israel and all humankind,
Soon, speedily, without delay,
And let us all say: Amen!

Hear, O Israel! The Eternal is our God, the Eternal alone.

Blessed is God’s Name, Whose glorious Kingdom is forever and ever.

You shall love the Eternal your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Take to heart these instructions with which I charge you this day. Impress them upon your children. Recite them when you stay at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up. Bind them as a sign on your hand and let them serve as a symbol on your forehead; inscribe them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

God’s power
To your weakness

God’s light
To your darkness

God’s love
To your loneliness

God’s care
To your troubles

God’s peace
To your distress

God’s eternity
Fill your life

We humans are part of nature, not separate from it. We are connected to every living thing on the planet. Remember the quiet comfort enveloped in a green forest, the refreshment of sudden summer downfall, the pleasure of the sun warming your upturned face, the crisp air of a winters day, the unending horizon which hints at more beyond, and the infinity of a cloudless night sky. We are nestled in the story of life on this planet, connected with each other backwards to our ancestors, and forwards to those who live on. May you take comfort in your place and your belonging.

I acknowledge before You, Eternal, my God and God of my ancestors, that my recovery and my death are in Your hands. May it be Your will to heal me completely. And if I die, may my passing be an atonement for all the sins that I have committed, and grant me my portion in Gan Eden, and allow me to merit the World to Come, which has been reserved for the righteous.

May His Strength uphold you.
May His Light shine upon you and may His Peace surround you.

Relax the tensions of my body…
Still the anxieties of my mind….
Calm the storms of my heart…
Give me courage to wait…
Let peace flow in me, through me, from me,
The deep deep peace of God.

May you be well.
May you be cleansed and purified
Of all that isn’t health.
May every cell in your body
Wake up and fight.
May the powerful light of healing
Move into every part of you.
May you return to being purely you.
May you be well.

Be heartened by the knowledge that you will find a way through your current challenges. It takes time to process new circumstances where you may feel vulnerable and uncertain. Give yourself that time to process: without reproach or impatience. May the kindness of others, combined with your kindness to yourself, give you strength, healing and peace of mind.

Thy Name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come.

May all who suffer body and mind be freed from their illnesses. May those frightened, cease to be afraid, and may those bound, be free. May the power-less find power, and may everyone remember to be kind to others.

Every day, may I willingly form affinity with others; Every day, may I practice loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity; Every day, may I treat people with tolerance and generosity. Oh great, compassionate Buddha!

Oh Lord, lead us from the unreal to the real; from darkness to light; from death to immortality. May there be peace in celestial regions. May there be peace on earth. May the waters be appeasing.

O God, remove the hardship, O Lord of mankind, grant cure for You are the Healer. There is no cure but from You, a cure which leaves no illness behind.

Heal us, Lord, and we shall be healed; save us, and we shall be saved; for it is You we praise. Send relief and healing for all our diseases, our sufferings and our wounds; for You are a merciful and faithful healer. Blessed are You Lord, who heals those who are sick.

Beholding me with His blessed gracious glance He has made me His own. By ever remembering Him in contemplation are all diseases healed. The Perfect Omnipresent Lord is ever fresh and ever young. Says Nanak, the Lord, God is realized.

Beloved Lord, Almighty God! Through the rays of the sun, through the waves of the air, through the All-pervading Life in space, purify and revivify me, and will pray and heal my body, heart, and soul.

May you benefit from the inheritance of human endeavor that means that ever greater knowledge is forged to heal the problems of the world. May you find strength in the potential for humankind to solve problems with ingenuity and perseverance. May you receive support and comfort in your connections with people that recognise your uniqueness and value. Gratitude eases the journey.
